Bath and a Half RVs: The End of the "Morning Traffic Jam"
For families and couples who host guests, the "Bath and a Half" floor plan is the ultimate game-changer. It solves the biggest problem in camping: the morning line-up for the shower.
At Leisure Days RV Group, we find that once a customer experiences the convenience of a 1.5-bath unit, they rarely go back to a single bathroom. Whether you are looking for a bunkhouse for the kids or a luxury fifth wheel for couples, this layout offers a level of privacy that rivals a residential home.

The Layout: How it Works
-
The Master Suite (Full Bath): Typically located at the front (Fifth Wheels) or rear (Travel Trailers), this is your private en-suite. It features a large shower, vanity, and toilet, accessible only through the master bedroom.
-
The Guest Bath (Half Bath): Located mid-ship or near the bunk room. It contains a toilet and sink (no shower). This allows guests or kids to use the restroom without waking you up or walking through your bedroom.
The "Two Black Tank" Reality
Before you buy, you need to know the logistics. A bath and a half RV almost always has Two Separate Black Tanks.
-
The Setup: Because the toilets are on opposite ends of the RV, they cannot drain into a single tank. You will have a front black tank (Master) and a rear black tank (Half Bath).
-
The Dump Station: You will have two separate sewer valves to pull.
-
Pro Tip: We recommend buying a "Y-Connector" for your sewer hose so you can connect both outlets to the sewer inlet simultaneously, saving you from moving the hose back and forth.
-
-
The Benefit: You effectively double your waste capacity. Instead of one 40-gallon tank, you might have 80 gallons total, allowing you to boondock twice as long before dumping.
Top Categories for 1.5 Baths
1. Mid-Profile Fifth Wheels (The Sweet Spot) This is the most popular segment for 1.5 baths. You get a loft or bunk room for the kids with their own half-bath.
-
Top Pick: Keystone Cougar. Known for their "Half-Ton Towable" luxury (though we recommend a 3/4-ton for these lengths), Cougar often offers floor plans with a second half-bath that balances weight and luxury perfectly.
2. Luxury Fifth Wheels (Couples' Coaches) You don't need kids to want a second bathroom. Many couples prefer a half-bath near the kitchen for guests, keeping the master bathroom completely private.
-
Top Pick: Jayco Eagle. The Eagle line is famous for its residential feel. Look for layouts that place a convenient half-bath off the kitchen island, allowing you to entertain guests without them ever entering your bedroom suite.
-
Why Buy: Your guests never have to see your toothbrush or dirty laundry.
3. Travel Trailers (Rare but Available) Finding a bath and a half in a travel trailer is harder because of the length required, but our top brands deliver.
-
Top Pick: Forest River Wildwood. These lines are known for their massive "Destination" style layouts. Look for models like the Wildwood 33TS series, which often feature a private bunkhouse with a connected half-bath.
-
Top Pick: Jayco Jay Flight. As the best-selling travel trailer in the industry, the Jay Flight lineup frequently includes 36+ foot bunkhouse models that offer the 1.5 bath convenience.
-
Warning: These trailers are typically 35+ feet long. You will need a Heavy Duty truck (F-250/2500) to tow them safely due to the length and sway potential.
The Length Trade-Off
There is no getting around it: bathrooms take up space.
-
Expect Length: Most 1.5-bath units are 36 to 42 feet long.
-
Site Selection: You may have trouble fitting into older state/provincial park campsites. These rigs are designed for modern RV resorts and pull-through sites.
-
Tow Vehicle: Do not attempt to tow a 1.5-bath travel trailer with a half-ton truck (F-150/1500), even if the weight is "technically" okay. The length requires the stability of a 3/4-ton truck.
