RV Road Hazard Protection FAQ
Your Questions, Answered.
Protecting your tires is essential for safe travel, but it is important to know exactly what is (and isn't) covered by your Road Hazard policy. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Q: What exactly is considered a "Road Hazard"?
A: A road hazard is an object or condition on a public roadway that should not be there. This includes potholes, glass, nails, screws, metal scraps, and jagged rocks.
Q: Does this cover normal tire wear?
A: No. Road Hazard Protection is not a "maintenance plan." It does not cover tires that go bald due to high mileage or poor alignment. It specifically covers unexpected damage caused by external objects.
Q: What if I hit a curb?
A: Generally, "curb rash" (scuffing the side of the tire or rim) is considered preventable driver error and is not covered. However, if hitting a road hazard (like a deep pothole) causes the rim to bend or crack, that is covered.
Q: Does this cover my truck/tow vehicle as well?
A: Typically, no. The policy is attached to the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the RV specifically. Your truck or SUV would need its own separate coverage. However, the Roadside Assistance benefit often extends to the tow vehicle if the breakdown occurs while you are actively towing the RV.
Q: I have AAA/CAA. Why do I need this towing coverage?
A: Standard auto clubs are fantastic for cars, but they often have strict limits on RVs.
-
Weight Limits: Many standard tow trucks cannot lift a 12,000 lb 5th wheel or a Class A Motorhome.
-
Cost Caps: A standard plan might cover the first $100 of towing. An RV tow can easily cost $800 to $1,500. Our "Sign & Drive" coverage is designed for heavy units.
Q: Do I have to pay upfront and get reimbursed?
A: In most cases, no. Our administrator pays the service provider directly via credit card over the phone. However, in some remote areas where the provider does not accept phone payments, you may need to pay and submit the receipt for rapid reimbursement.
Q: What if I have a blowout on a Sunday/Holiday?
A: The Roadside Assistance line is open 24/7/365. You can always get help dispatching a tire changer or tow truck, regardless of the day or time.
